Balkan Music Square - Ohrid


Balkan Music Square festival is organised in the Antique Theatre in Ohrid. Jordaan Festival


The Jordaan Festival is organised annually in the most colourful folk district in Amsterdam, the Jordaan. Many artists, all with a preference for the traditional Dutch levenslied or ‘song of life’ and particularly the Amsterdam version, perform their ballads during the three-day festival. Levenslied The old folk district called the Jordaan has brought forth many famous Dutch artists in the past decades. Johnny Jordaan, Tante Leen and Johnny Meyer – they all sang their plaintive songs in a heavy Amsterdam accent. These days the levenslied, a traditional Dutch folk song, is honoured at the Jordaan Festival. Bij ons in de Jordaan... Bij ons in the Jordaan translates roughly as ‘in our familiar Jordaan’... This huge street festival with its many stages was first held in 1975 and centres around the Elandsgracht, Marnixstraat and Appeltjesmarkt. There are games for children, drum brands, cabaret and opera performances, all Amsterdam-style. If you happen to be in the Jordaan and like the levenslied, don’t forget to conclude your visit with a drink at Café Nol or De Twee Zwaantjes. Amsterdam's most famous neighbourhood party Since its launch in 1975, the Jordaan Festival has been a huge street party around the Marnixstraat, Elandsgracht and Appeltjesmarkt, celebrating the area’s colourful history. This year’s programme is typically cosy, including drum bands, children’s games, opera, cabaret and mass sing-alongs. Musically, the festival is most famous for the ballads or the levensliederen (songs of life),  Famous Dutch minstrels return annually to croon renowned folk songs by the immortal Johnny Jordaan, Tante Leen and Johnny Meyer. Songs of hardship can also be heard from classic sing-along bars De Twee Zwaantjes and Café Nol.
