From the observation wheel you can experience panoramic views of Winter Wonderland and beyond. In the evening, hop on the Tube to Covent Garden, an area transformed into a winter haven come the holiday season. See the famous Piazza lit up and watch the lights sparkle from a 60ft Christmas tree and topiary reindeer. There are plenty of places to try for dinner; the Opera Quarter and St Martin's Courtyard are packed with a diverse mix of restaurants. Try Jamie's Italian, Indian cafe Dishoom or the Opera Tavern, which serves tapas-style dishes. Make it to Leicester Square on foot before curtain call for a wonderful Christmas show. English National Ballet perform the beautifully festive Nutcracker at the London Coliseum until 5 January. This magical tale begins on an enchanted Christmas Eve and features the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Waltz of the Flowers. It’s a five minute walk to the famous Trafalgar Square where you can warm up with a hot drink while hearing recitals of classic carols (from 9 December) and see the world-famous Christmas tree in place (an annual gift from Norway since 1947).
